How about this for extensive use of oak flooring?
If oak flooring is good enough for a highly trafficked area at Munich Airport, it will probably do the job in your home!
Just make sure you finish it with a hard wearing waxoil like Osmo Polyx-oil or Blanchon Hard Wax.
