Brushed Oak in a Chic Apartment

Brushed natural oak makes for a wonderfully muted floor, a great example being this Parisian apartment designed by architect Antonio Virga.

Brushed Oak flooring

Virga designs for some of the top names in fashion and interiors, including Chloe and Dior - there's a little bit of Kelly Hoppen to this look too.

You can achieve this look using unfinished solid or engineered oak flooring, applying a product such as Blanchon Wood Floor Environment which doesn't change the natural colour of the oak.

Oak Flooring at Munich Airport

How about this for extensive use of oak flooring?

If oak flooring is good enough for a highly trafficked area at Munich Airport, it will probably do the job in your home!
Just make sure you finish it with a hard wearing waxoil like Osmo Polyx-oil or Blanchon Hard Wax.
Hat tip to freshome for the image and article.

Tiger Oak Flooring Special Offer

New for March 2011, Tigre 14mm solid oak flooring is on special offer at just £19.50 per square metre + VAT and delivery.

Tiger oak results from the presence of a fungus in the living tree which leads to a striped discolouration in the floor boards.

Not to everyone's taste but a certainly a striking statement, Tigre oak flooring offers fantastic value.

Obviously, being only 14mm thick, the bards can be fitted over an existing wooden floor, where perhaps carpet and under lay may have been used previously.

Essentially a character grade oak floor, Tigre has a few knots and shakes but it is it's striking colour which will really take the breath away.

Blanchon Hard Waxoil January Special Offer

Introducing Blanchon Hard Waxoil, the only genuine alternative to Osmo Polyx-Oil for sealing and protecting oak floors.

Blanchon Hard Waxoil
For January 2011, we're offering a 2.5l tin of Blanchon Hard Wax oil for just £48.00 including VAT & Mainland UK delivery - we're pretty sure this is the best value available nationally at the moment !

Blanchon Hard Wax-Oil dries in under 5 hours (usually in under 3!) so you can get 2 coats onto most room sized floors in one day. Osmo's equivalent Rapid Set hard wax oil is almost twice the price for the same performance and so we heartily recommend the Blanchon if you need the job done quickly.

Check out the Blanchon Hard Waxoil page on the Peak Oak website for technical details.

Proflex Wood Floor Adhesive On Special Offer

For November 2010, we've slashed the price of a 16kg tub of Proflex MS Polymer flexible floor adhesive down to just £58 + VAT and delivery.

Everyone knows we keep banging on about how good this stuff is, but it really is the best glue for the job - especially if you're laying a floor over underfloor heating.

Top Tip: Make sure you cover the whole sub-floor using a notched trowel so that there's no air between your boards and the screeded sub-floor.

Oak Flooring For A Top Quality Restoration

Always on the look out for good uses of oak flooring, I stumbled on this - Park Farm in Colwall, Herefordshire.

If there was ever a great example for how oak flooring can be used in a home, this is it.

This farmhouse is quite simply stunning, blending the highest quality contemporary fittings with traditional building techniques and finishes, this house should be an inspiration to all.

Although the farm is floored from wall to wall with oak, it's hard to tell whether they have used solid or engineered oak flooring.

It might seem wrong to use engineered boards in such an old and prestigious build, however, the modern trend for restorations and rebuilds, is to install underfloor heating to free up the walls of radiators.

This could be the case here, as there are no radiators visible in any of the interior shots.

It's worth popping over to the Farm's website because they have a large gallery of pictures of both the rebuild and the finished interiors.
